Happy New Year! First post since July last year. Wow 8 months, that’s probably the longest hiatus I’ve had so far. Life’s been busy, I got a job like most people, worked 40hours a week like most people, and like most people quit after a few months of working. Ok I’m kidding. All joking aside, this year’s gonna be a year of change for me.
I’m afraid of change, I’m not gonna lie. It’s like how I hate major updates on MMORPGs, since that would bring changes in the game economy, change in player behavior, new quests, new items, etc. I know it’s also stupid but my anxiety builds days before the updates till I just burn out when It’s released. I will probably eventually like the updates because contrary to the above statement I also like updates. My point is, I hate change. So what am I getting at? One word, Military.
I blame Tracy for this, she’s starting a photoblog which kinda made me wanna take pics all of a sudden. Found out it takes 5-10 tries to get a decent quality picture using my camera, I was getting agitated and almost threw it out the window. It’s also the culprit behind my blurry graduation pictures, thus I have none I could share with relatives who always aks for them. Anyways, I took snapshots of some parts of my room (the not so messy but still dusty parts) most of em just pictures of the figures I have, there should be 1 more figure coming this month but now I’m kinda debating whether I’ll buy it or not.
I’m testing this DM-albums plugin for Wordpress… I’ve tried 2-3 other “photo-album thingymabob” plugins but I didn’t like em (or they didn’t work). Does anyone know any good plugin for worpress? A table of photos with thumbnails would also work ^^;
What is Touhou? — The Touhou Project is a series of 2D (with 3D background) vertically-scrolling danmaku shooting games made by Team Shanghai Alice, with two fighting game spinoffs co-produced with Tasogare Frontier. They are similar to regular shooting games, but focus more on weaving through complex patterns containing anywhere from dozens to hundreds of bullets. Every game in the Touhou series is set in the fantasy land of Gensokyo, and the series is known for its huge cast of characters, well-developed storylines, and related materials such as music CDs and fan-made comics and several flashes made to the music. -source
What is Touhou M-1 Grand Prix? — The M-1 Grand Prix is an annual manzai (two person stand-up comedy) competition. The Touhou M-1 Grand Prix is a fan-made production that emulates that style, with pairs of characters doing routines.
I’m no big fan of touhou but I did enjoy playing some of the games – IAMP and SWR. These two games had a network play feature and with a little help of some 3rd party programs, you can play with your friends online. I also enjoy watching the Touhou M-1 Grand Prix skits that were subbed and posted on youtube. I hope to see more of these subbed in the future ^^;
I’ve been playing MMORPGS since 2001, I’ve tried a bunch of local and international games, but only a few succeeded at holding my interest for a long time. There were games I dropped a few minutes after trying them, completely forgettable and utterly horrendous games. There were also some that kept me going for weeks or months. I’m by no means a hardcore gamer, I’m somewhat in the middle, I’m the person who cheats a few hours of sleep saying I gotta go afk for a while when he’s scheduled to go all night with friends either that or I’ll just completely waffle on my desk (well usually i’d crawl to my bed first). Here’s a list of things that keep me hooked to a mmorpg.
Friends
Well, I have to admit that even though a game’s utterly crap or mediocre compared to other games, I’d still be playing it if my friends are in it. Accomplishing something with friends is just priceless, it adds to that “did you remember when we” bank that we could reminisce as we move on to other things later in life. In some cases though, the game is so mediocre there’s so little things you can do that will give you that sense of accomplishment or you can do as a group. That’s when you’re left with just chilling with your friends ^^;. Some of my fondest memories in gaming are still from the games Ragnarok Online, Final Fantasy XI, and Mabinogi where I played with mostly IRL friends.
Armors
Whether I’m using a male or female character, I like it to look good (that’s probably why I don’t play WoW). Of course you can’t avoid looking exactly like the person next to you, with thousands of players and only hundreds or maybe less gears to choose from you’re bound to have a clone somewhere. So what’s the next best thing? for me, non-tradable race/job specific equipments that you work for! the best example for this is FFXI’s JSE and Relic weapons. Other games have dyes like Mabinogi, you wanna rock that Hot Pink Long Sword School Uniform to be unique? Whatever floats your boat.
Game Physics
Nothing drives me nuts more than getting stuck on a pebble on the ground, those invisible walls surrounding object sprites. One game I’ve recently played that comes to mind is Atlus’ NeoSteam. I tried it just because it was Atlus, their console jRPGs are some of my faves, but their MMORPG is mediocre to say the least. Nothing like dying from a horde of monsters because you got stuck on a tiny bush. ffs
Overall Feel
There are a lot of WoW GUI clones out there, we’re at the point where there’s really nothing much we could create that hasn’t been used before. It’s like the template has been set, users like it and are used to it, and producers market what is sellable. What I don’t like are those “cheap” looking games due to the lack of adjectives to describe them. Come to think of it I’ve played this ninja mmorpg before (forgot the game) that had cheap looking user interface and really poor game physics, even the character’s movements looked awkward and ugly. Well, to sum it up, just give me eyecandy and I’ll be happy. (some anti-aliasing would help)
Story
Again I’m just basing this from the games that I have played, but by far the only 2 games that had good stories that I have played are FFXI and Mabinogi. FFXI is final fantasy so it better have a good story, it’s expected. Mabinogi I give a little props to since it’s a Free to play game and from my experience F2P games usually fail at their attempt at giving us a story.
I don’t really listen that much to mainstream music and ever since I got into anime, my playlist’s always been full of anime OP/EDs, Jpop, and J-rock. Few months ago I stumbled upon 3 Albums featuring Hatsune Miku and I’ve been listening to it ever since. The album by supercell is just amazing, some of miku’s most famous songs are in it.
Some of my other faves:
Black Rock Shooter
Black★Rock Shooter tells of the narrator’s despair and hopelessness as they wander aimlessly, searching for something important to them that they presumably lost. Eventually the narrator gains new hope and decides to move on into the future with courage. The video for the song became massively popular, featuring Black★Rock Shooter traveling through a bleak city and countryside, riding a motorbike and wielding weapons. Black★Rock Shooter is an original character design by Huke, and happens to resemble Miku. – Source
~World is Mine
Spoiled Miku is cute <3 The song and PV are funny.
Love Shuffle, yet another title recommended to me by Kris, my otaku buddy (LOL i’m kidding man). Anyways, this drama is a pure gem, the moment I saw the cast – Hiroshi Tamaki, Shota Matsuda – and Genre – Romance/Comedy – I knew this series will be fun and it didn’t fail me. First off, I was pleasantly surprised by the use of English oldies for the BGM and theme songs. The main theme was Fantasy by Earth, Wind & Fire. One insert song I immediately recognized was Eternal Flame by The Bangles which I often found myself singing along with ^^;
